Terry P. of Kenmore, WA turned a segmented bowl in figured maple and black walnut, with dark splines radiating out from a red plug at the center of the base. The plug, he says, marks the blood he put into the project — a 1" kerf in his left thumb, earned while cutting those splines.
The bowl came together in three days on a Shopsmith Mark 7, finished with General Finishes Gel Topcoat, and cost under $50 in materials. The design is his own, with a walnut rim and foot bracketing a maple body, and thin light splines breaking up the segments.

Wanted to make a bowl with a little character. Aside from cutting a 1" kerf in my left thumb while cutting the splines, the project went well. (The red center is a reminder of the blood I put into the project.)
