Stephen K. of Fredonia built a kitchen cabinet with a bay sized for a wine cooler, but the refrigeration unit never got the ventilation it needed. Rather than fight it, he pulled the cooler out and filled the opening with four shop-made slide-out racks for his red wines.
The racks are white pine, all of it scrap, cut on a table saw and scroll saw and sealed with tung oil. Stephen designed them himself over a few days, with most of the waiting time spent letting glue set, and reckons the only real expense was about $60 in shelf brackets.
In Stephen’s words
I built a kitchen cabinet with an area for a wine cooler. It looked good, but there was not good ventilation for the refrigerator unit, so I pulled it out and built wine racks to store red wines.
