Stump Planters

A stump can be turned into a standout feature in your yard.

How to do it:

  1. Use a chisel or drill to hollow out the center, leaving about 3 inches around the edge for support.
  2. Drill angled drainage holes at the bottom.
  3. Add potting soil and plant flowers, herbs, or greenery.

Log Planter Boxes

Large logs or cut tree trunks can become rustic planter boxes.

How to do it:

  1. Cut the log to the length you want.
  2. Hollow out the center with a chainsaw or axe, leaving the sides intact.
  3. Fill with soil and your favorite plants.

Small Succulent Planters

Even smaller pieces of wood can be turned into charming little planters.

How to do it:

  1. Cut or carve a shallow hole in the center of a chunk of wood.
  2. Line the hole with mesh and a piece of potting soil bag.
  3. Add soil, succulents, and a touch of moss for decoration.

Indoor Log Planters

With a bit of finishing, logs can make stylish indoor décor.

How to do it:

  1. Cut a short section of log and hollow out the center.
  2. Seal the wood with polyurethane or another wood sealant.
  3. Attach inexpensive legs to the base for a modern look.
  4. Fill with soil and houseplants.
