Anthony and Bob Barker from Wood Pack DIY have design a umbrella stand table that is perfect for any outdoor space. This project is not just about functionality; it brings a modern aesthetic to your patio or backyard while cleverly concealing the DIY umbrella weight.

Materials
- Redwood boards
- Melamine board (for molds)
- PVC pipe (for umbrella pole)
- Concrete mix
- Hot glue
- Silicone caulk
- Wire reinforcement (optional)
- Spar urethane (for finish)
- Furniture leg pads
Tools
- Miter saw
- Table saw
- Drill
- Pocket hole jig
- Clamps
- Shovel (for concrete)
- Measuring tape
- Level
- Sanding tools
Step 1: Cutting the Wood
Start by selecting the redwood pieces that will form the legs and slats of the umbrella stand table. Using a miter saw, cut the wood to the desired lengths. The aim is to create a simple yet effective design that can conceal the umbrella weight while providing a surface for drinks or snacks.

Step 2: Drilling Pocket Holes
Next, drill pocket holes into the slats. Each slat will require two pocket holes, and you will need approximately seven slats per side. As Anthony mentions, this process involves a lot of drilling, especially since he plans to build three tables.

Step 3: Assembling the Panels
Once all the slats are prepared, it’s time to assemble the panels. Initially, Anthony used spacers to get the desired reveal at the front of the table. However, he soon realized that flipping the entire assembly over for easier access to the pocket hole screws was a smarter approach.

Step 4: Joining the Panels
After the panels are assembled, join them together using clamps and pocket hole screws. It’s important to be gentle when tightening the screws to avoid splitting the wood, as the pieces are relatively thin. Repeat this for all four sides of each table.

Step 5: Preparing the Concrete Tops
This project marks Anthony’s first experience working with concrete for furniture. He cuts melamine board to create molds for the concrete tops. Each mold will be used for three separate tabletops, so ensure they are secure and properly aligned.

Step 6: Adding PVC Pipe for Umbrella Pole
To create the hole for the umbrella pole, Anthony secures pieces of PVC pipe in the molds using hot glue. This method works effectively, ensuring the pipes stay in place during the concrete pouring process.

Step 7: Pouring Concrete
Using a countertop mix, Anthony mixes the concrete with water and coloring to match existing concrete in the backyard. He carefully pours the mixture into the molds, ensuring that it is evenly distributed. Adding wire reinforcement provides extra stability.

Step 8: Demolding the Concrete Tops
After allowing the concrete to set for a couple of days, it’s time to demold. Carefully remove the molds to reveal the concrete tops. The PVC pipes pull out easily, and the tops come out smooth, ready for finishing.

Step 9: Finishing the Wood Bases
While waiting for the concrete to cure, Anthony applies a spar urethane finish to the wood bases, providing protection against the elements. After the finish dries, he also sands the edges of the concrete to ensure no sharp points are left.

Step 10: Final Assembly
Finally, Anthony joins the concrete tops to the wooden bases using silicone caulk for added strength. Once everything is secure, the tables are complete and ready to be used in the backyard.

Conclusion
The umbrella stand tables not only serve a practical purpose but also enhance the look of any outdoor space. With some basic woodworking skills and creativity, anyone can tackle this project. For detailed plans go here.
