Looking for a simple yet elegant way to hang your towels? This DIY project was created by Justin and Jess from Justin and Jess DIY, and it’s perfect for adding a personal touch to your bathroom or kitchen.
With just a few materials and tools, you can create beautiful towel hooks that are both functional and stylish.
Materials Needed:
- 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ wood (any kind, pine recommended)
- 3/16″ dowel screws
- Drywall anchors
- Provincial stain
Tools Required:
- Circular saw or hand saw
- Sanding tools (electric sander and hand sander)
- Pencil and straight edge
- Drill
- Level
- Pair of pliers
Step 1: Cutting the Wood
Start by marking a 45-degree angle on either end of the wood piece. This will give your towel hooks a stylish edge. Use a table saw or miter saw for a clean cut, but a circular saw or hand saw will work too if that’s what you have.
Step 2: Sanding the Edges
After cutting, sand the edges to smooth out any imperfections. It’s important to maintain a rigid finish on the top and bottom while smoothing the sides.
Step 3: Staining the Wood
Apply your chosen stain. For a lighter finish, start with a provincial stain and allow it to dry completely. This usually takes about 24 hours.
Step 4: Installing the Towel Hooks
Once the wood is dry, decide where you want to install the hooks. Use drywall anchors to secure them in place. Mark the spots where the screws will go and use a level to ensure everything is straight.
Step 5: Drilling Pilot Holes
Drill pilot holes for the dowel screws. Make sure to drill straight in to avoid any mishaps. If you encounter any issues, don’t hesitate to adjust your approach.
Step 6: Securing the Hooks
Insert the dowel screws into the wall anchors. If they’re too thick, consider using a different size. Use pliers for a better grip while twisting the screws in.
Step 7: Enjoy Your New Towel Hooks!
Once everything is secured, step back and admire your handiwork! These towel hooks not only serve a practical purpose but also add a touch of craftsmanship to your space.
