Why Build a Wooden Phone Stand?
A phone stand is a great way to keep your device upright and accessible while working or charging. It also helps keep your workspace organized by preventing tangled cables and misplaced phones.
Using repurposed wood for this project adds an extra layer of sustainability. Instead of letting scrap wood go to waste, it can be transformed into something both useful and visually appealing.
How Ale Built His Phone Stand
For this build, Ale used wood salvaged from pallets, giving the stand a unique and rustic look. The design is simple but effective, ensuring a sturdy structure while maintaining a sleek appearance.
To determine the right size, he measured a phone to ensure a snug but functional fit. Adding extra space around the phone allowed room for adjustments while keeping the stand stable.
Creating the Phone Holder
The stand includes a small ledge at the bottom to keep the phone from sliding. Ale cut a small strip of wood to act as this holder, ensuring it was just the right size to support different phone models.
To keep the setup clean and functional, he also drilled a hole for the charging cable. This allows the phone to charge while resting on the stand, preventing cables from cluttering the workspace.
Achieving the Right Viewing Angle
A phone stand needs to hold the device at a comfortable angle for easy viewing. Ale adjusted the back support to tilt at approximately 60 degrees, which provides good visibility without taking up too much space.
The base of the stand was made slightly shorter than the back support, giving the finished piece a balanced look. By keeping the structure compact, it remains stable while maintaining a minimalist design.
Assembling and Securing the Stand
Once all the pieces were cut and fitted, Ale glued the components together to ensure a strong bond. Clamps were used to hold everything in place while the glue dried, helping to keep the angles precise.
For extra reinforcement, he added small screws to the holder. Pre-drilling the holes helped prevent splitting, ensuring a clean and sturdy final assembly.
Sanding and Finishing Touches
After the glue dried, Ale sanded the edges and surfaces to remove any rough spots. This step not only improved the overall feel of the stand but also gave it a polished appearance.
The final result was a durable and functional phone stand that can be used on a desk, nightstand, or kitchen counter. The built-in cable slot made charging easy while keeping cords neatly tucked away.
