Outdoor Side Table

This design was built and created by Angela Marie from Angela Marie Made, and it perfectly complements your outdoor furniture set.

Materials:

  • 4 – 2×3 lumber (8ft)
  • 3 – 1×4 lumber (for slats)
  • Wood glue
  • 2 1/2″ outdoor screws
  • 1 1/4″ Kreg screws
  • Wood filler
  • Stain (Valspar Semi-Transparent Exterior Stain in Pine Bark)

Tools:

  • Miter saw
  • Kreg jig
  • Brad nailer
  • Clamps
  • Drill

Step 1: Make the Initial Cuts

Using a miter saw, cut four 2x3s at a 45-degree angle for the table top frame. Then cut six 2x3s for the table legs with straight zero-degree cuts.

Step 2: Assemble the Top Frame

Use a Kreg jig to add one pocket hole on each side of two 2x3s with 45-degree cuts. Add waterproof wood glue between one of the two boards with a pocket hole and one without. Clamp them down together to your work surface and use a brad nailer to secure the boards. Then, add a 2 1/2 inch outdoor screw into the pocket hole. Repeat this for the other three sides to complete the frame.

Step 3: Add the Slat Boards

Measure the distance between the side frames and cut three 1x4s to this size. Adjust your Kreg jig settings for 3/4 inch thick wood and add two pocket holes to each end of the 1×4 boards. Attach the slat boards to the frame with a half-inch gap between them using 1 1/4 inch outdoor screws.

Step 4: Assemble the Legs

Adjust the Kreg jig settings for 1 1/2 inch thick wood and add two pocket holes on both sides of two of the leg boards. Mark 3 1/2 inches up from the bottom of the two leg boards without pocket holes, and attach the boards with pocket holes at this mark using 2 1/2 inch screws and wood glue. Repeat this process for the second leg.

Step 5: Attach the Legs to the Tabletop

Attach one of the legs to the table top with waterproof wood glue and a 2 1/2 inch deck screw. Make sure to countersink the screws beneath the wood surface so you can fill them with wood filler later. Repeat this step for the other leg.

Step 6: Finish the Table

Fill any screw and nail holes with wood filler and sand down any joints that don’t sit flush. Finally, stain your outdoor side table with Valspar Semi-Transparent Exterior Stain in Pine Bark, using a foam brush for hard-to-reach areas.
