This project is by Phill Wyatt Projects. This DIY project is not only budget-friendly but also allows you to add a spooky touch to your Halloween decor.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
For this project, you’ll need:
- Scrap pallet wood
- 2×3 scrap piece (for support)
- Jigsaw
- Miter saw
- Sanding tools (80 grit sandpaper and hand sander)
- Drill with bits for pilot holes
- Old ring nails
- Glue
- Water-based acrylic paint
- Glitter paint
Step 2: Arrange and Cut the Wood
Start by arranging the scrap pieces of pallet wood in different sizes to create an interesting look for your ghost decorations. Once you’re happy with the arrangement, draw a straight line across the bottom using a speed square.
Step 3: Prepare the Back Plate
Next, you need to check how wide the back plate needs to be. Cut a scrap piece of 2×3 wood to support the ghosts and keep them standing upright.
Step 4: Shape the Ghost Heads
Draw out the shapes of the heads for each ghost, aiming for different shapes to add variety. Use a jigsaw to cut out these shapes.
Step 5: Sand the Edges
Give all the pieces a good sanding with 80 grit sandpaper. Make sure to smooth out all the edges and finish with hand sanding for a polished look.
Step 6: Create Pilot Holes
Before assembling, make pilot holes for the nails. This helps ensure that the nails go in straight and don’t cause the wood to split.
Step 7: Assemble the Ghosts
Using old ring nails removed from pallets, glue each ghost head to the support foot. Secure them in place with two nails per ghost, adjusting as necessary to ensure they are even.
Step 8: Paint the Ghosts
Now it’s time to paint! Start with a base coat using water-based acrylic paint. After the first coat, fill in any nail holes with flexible filler. Once dried, apply a second coat and add some glitter paint for a fun dimension.
Step 9: Add Faces
Finally, draw and paint the faces on your ghosts using black paint to complete the spooky look.
Step 10: Display Your Ghosts
Once everything is dry, you can display your creepy ghost decorations alongside other Halloween decor. These ghosts are quick and easy to make, and they look fantastic!
And there you have it! A fun DIY project to add a creepy touch to your Halloween festivities. If you enjoyed this project, be sure to like and subscribe for more DIY ideas!
