This project is by Anika’s DIY Life. This DIY bench is not only budget-friendly but also allows you to create a stylish seating option for both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Before you begin building, make sure you have the following materials:
- 2×4 boards
- Wood glue
- 2.5-inch pocket hole screws
- Saw (Miter saw preferred for angled cuts)
- Sander
- Drill
Step 2: Cut the Boards
Start by cutting all the boards according to the measurements in the plans. The design includes a few angled cuts, so set up your miter saw accordingly.
Step 3: Make Pocket Holes
After cutting, make pocket holes using a pocket hole jig. This will help you assemble the bench securely.
Step 4: Assemble the Frame
Begin by assembling the frame of the bench. Start with the ends and make sure everything fits together properly.
Step 5: Attach the Slats
Next, attach the slats to the frame. Use a scrap piece of 1×4 to create uniform spacing between the slats, ensuring they are aligned properly.
Step 6: Attach the Legs
Now it’s time to attach the legs. Make sure the pocket holes are facing inward. Use wood glue and screws to secure them in place.
Step 7: Upholstered Version (Optional)
If you want to create an upholstered version, simply add 2×4 boards between the legs to create a frame, then attach a piece of plywood for the seat.
Step 8: Finishing Touches
Once the bench is assembled, you can sand it down for a smooth finish. Optionally, you can paint or stain it to match your decor.
Final Thoughts
This versatile 2×4 bench is perfect for any space, whether indoors or outdoors.
