Looking for an affordable and stylish outdoor project? This incredible three planter and two bench system was created by Matthew Peech, and it can be built for less than $30! This guide will walk you through the simple steps to create a beautiful and functional outdoor set.

Materials and Tools Needed
- 4 pieces of 2x6x8 boards
- 1 piece of 2x8x10 board
- Wood glue
- 3/4 inch brad nails
- Paint or stain (optional)
- Safety glasses
- Respiratory protection (RZ M3 mask)
- Digital hearing protection
- Table saw
- Miter saw
- Kreg 720 pocket hole jig
- Clamps
Step 1: Prepare Your Materials
Start by cutting your boards to size. For the planters, cut:
- 4 legs at 20 inches
- 1 slat at 53 inches
- 2 horizontal boards at 15 inches
Step 2: Create Notches for the Slats
Using your table saw, cut notches in the horizontal boards to fit the slats. Each notch should be 1/4 inch wide and 1/2 inch deep.
Step 3: Assemble the Planters
Lay out your side panels using a jig to keep everything square. Apply wood glue and use brad nails to secure the slats in place. Make sure to evenly space the slats using quarter-inch spacers.
Step 4: Attach the Legs
Once the side panels are assembled, attach the legs using pocket hole screws for a sturdy structure. This design allows for easy disassembly at the end of the season.
Step 5: Build the Benches
For the benches, follow a similar process. Cut the necessary pieces and assemble them just like the planters, ensuring to leave gaps for slats and supports.
Step 6: Final Assembly
Once all pieces are cut and assembled, you can choose to attach the benches to the planters using pocket holes. This step is optional, but it adds extra stability.
Enjoy Your New Outdoor Set!
Congratulations! You’ve just built a stunning three planter and two bench system for less than $30. With a little creativity and some woodworking skills, you can enhance your outdoor space without breaking the bank.
