Materials and Tools Needed:

  • 1×12 hardwood board (Walnut, Maple)
  • Plexiglass or acrylic sheet
  • Dowel (Poplar or similar)
  • Wood glue
  • Wood screws
  • Wood stain (optional)
  • Food grade sealer
  • Kreg Pocket Hole Jig
  • Kreg Adaptive Cutting System (ACS)
  • Drill and drill bits

Step 1: Prepare Your Boards

Start by cutting your 1×12 board into the necessary pieces. You can use up some scrap hardwood by gluing together pieces of Walnut and Maple to create a unique design.

Step 2: Cut to Size

Using the Kreg ACS, trim the glued boards to an 11¼ inch width. This allows for quick and repeatable cuts.

Step 3: Create the Handle

Mark and cut angles on the top of the sideboards to mimic a traditional wooden toolbox. Then, drill a hole in the center for your dowel handle.

Step 4: Add Shelf Pin Holes

Next, use a shelf pin jig to drill holes in the sideboards. This will allow for adjustable shelf placement to accommodate pies of different heights.

Step 5: Create the Groove for Plexiglass

Mark where the groove for the sliding Plexiglass will go. Use the Kreg ACS to cut this groove into both side pieces and the bottom piece.

Step 6: Assemble the Carrier

Assemble the pie carrier using wood glue and pocket hole screws. Attach the bottom board to one side, then the top board, ensuring everything is square.

Step 7: Attach the Plexiglass

Measure and cut the Plexiglass to fit the front and back of the carrier. Pre-drill holes for tiny nails to secure the Plexiglass in place.
