Outdoor End Table for the Patio

This project was built and designed by Anthony from Wood Pack DIY, with a little help from his four-legged assistant, Bob Barker. It’s a compact, durable end table that complements the rest of his patio furniture series and adds style and function to any outdoor setup.

Built with strong joinery and designed for real-world use, this project is approachable for DIYers at any level. With just a few tools and careful attention to fit and finish, Anthony shows how to create a sturdy, attractive piece for your patio.

Preparing the Wood

Anthony begins by cutting all the frame pieces to identical lengths, using a stop block setup to keep things consistent. Bob Barker may not handle the saw, but he’s always nearby to supervise the cuts and keep the mood light.

Outdoor lumber isn’t always perfect, so Anthony makes slight trims to straighten edges and ensure flush joints. Getting these details right early makes assembly easier and cleaner later on.

Assembling the Frame

The end table frame is joined using a bead lock system, which allows for strong, dowel-like joints without complex mortising. Center lines are marked for alignment, and the parts are clamped securely before drilling.

After drilling, a bit of chisel work is needed to square the holes and clean the edges. This ensures the tenons fit snugly and keeps the frame tight and wobble-free.

Building the Tabletop

For the tabletop, Anthony uses a combination of bead locks and pocket hole screws. This mix of joinery provides extra strength and ensures everything stays square.

He uses square clamps during the glue-up to maintain perfect 90-degree angles. Each part is sanded as it’s assembled, which helps reduce cleanup later and keeps the build process moving efficiently.

Cutting and Installing the Slats

With the frame complete, slats are cut to fill the tabletop area. Anthony breaks the edges with a sander for a smoother look and feel.

Before attaching them, a dry fit confirms everything is spaced and aligned correctly. The slats are then secured with countersunk screws to prevent splitting and to keep the top surface smooth.

Finishing the Table

A round-over bit is used to soften all the sharp edges, giving the table a more polished and comfortable profile. This detail also helps with durability, especially in an outdoor setting.

Anthony applies the same stain used on his other patio pieces to keep the overall look cohesive. Bob Barker may not care about matching finishes, but he seems to approve of the results.

Rubber feet are installed on the bottom of each leg to keep the table stable and protect it from ground moisture. If the surface isn’t perfectly level, Anthony suggests using scrap wood shims to fine-tune the balance.

Outdoor Ready and Built to Last

Despite its small size, this table is designed to withstand real outdoor use. Solid construction, smart joinery, and proper finishing ensure it’ll hold up well through the seasons.

The combination of bead lock joinery, pocket screws, and clean design lines makes this build both practical and good-looking. It’s sturdy enough to use daily and stylish enough to anchor any outdoor setup.

A Fun Weekend Project with Great Results

Anthony’s clear approach and efficient techniques make this project ideal for any DIYer. It’s simple enough for beginners but satisfying enough for more experienced builders looking for a quick win.

With Bob Barker always by his side, Anthony brings a relaxed, enjoyable energy to the workshop—and it shows in the finished product. Whether you’re furnishing a full patio or just adding a small accent table, this build is a great choice.
