Step 2: Cut Your Wood

Start by cutting your fence pickets according to the following cut list:

  1. First board: 7 pieces at 10 inches each
  2. Second board: 3 pieces at 8 inches and 6 pieces at 7 inches

Alternatively, you can use this option:

  1. First board: 4 pieces at 10 inches, 2 pieces at 8 inches, and 2 pieces at 7 inches
  2. Second board: 3 pieces at 10 inches, 1 piece at 8 inches, and 4 pieces at 7 inches

Step 3: Assemble the Lanterns

Once all pieces are cut, it’s time to assemble your lanterns:

  1. Take the 10-inch pieces and glue them together to form the front of the lantern.
  2. Attach the shorter back piece, which will allow access for the LED lights.
  3. Secure the sides with glue and nails.
  4. Add a decorative top if desired, using the remaining wood scraps.

Step 4: Create the Faces

Now, it’s time to add some character to your Jack-O-Lanterns:

You can either print out designs or draw them directly onto the wood. Use a jigsaw or scroll saw to cut out the faces. Drill pilot holes for easier cutting if needed.

Step 5: Paint and Decorate

Once the faces are cut out, paint your lanterns in festive colors. Traditional orange and green work great, but feel free to get creative!

Step 6: Final Touches

After the paint dries, place your LED lights inside the lanterns. You can also add any additional decorations to make them stand out.
