This charming farmhouse coffee table was created by Shanty2Chic, and it’s perfect for any living room. With just eight boards and under $40 in lumber, this project is both affordable and stylish.

Materials and Tools Needed
- 4 – 2×6 boards
- 4 – 2×4 boards
- Wood glue
- 2.5-inch pocket hole screws
- 1.5-inch pocket hole screws
- Wood finish (optional)
- Tools: Miter saw, drill, Kreg jig (optional)
Step 1: Prepare Your Boards
The first step in building this coffee table is to make all the necessary cuts for your boards. The two by sixes should be ripped down to five inches wide, and the two by fours should be three inches wide. Once your boards are ready, you can start assembling the legs.

Step 2: Build the Leg Pieces
Start by constructing the two bottom leg pieces that will form the X shape of the table’s legs. Use the 2.5-inch pocket hole screws to attach the pieces together. Make sure to drill the pocket holes facing up and down to keep them hidden once assembled.

Step 3: Create the X Pieces
For the X pieces, lay your long board down and mark where the cuts will be made. After making the first long cut, hold up the shorter pieces to mark them for cutting. This ensures a perfect fit for your X pieces.

Step 4: Assemble the X Pieces
Once you have your X pieces cut, apply glue to the ends and position them correctly. Since these pieces are not structural, using glue and nails is sufficient for this part of the assembly.

Step 5: Add the Diagonal Feet
Next, add the diagonal feet pieces to the legs. Cut these pieces to the same length as the boxes you just built, ensuring they are at a 45-degree angle. Attach them using 2.5-inch pocket hole screws and wood glue.

Step 6: Build the Tabletop and Shelf
Now it’s time to construct the tabletop and bottom shelf. For the tabletop, use the ripped boards and attach them using 1.5-inch pocket holes and 2.5-inch screws. The same method applies to the bottom shelf.

Step 7: Attach the Runner
Attach the runner to the leg pieces, making sure it is flush with the bottom shelf. Use wood glue and 2.5-inch pocket hole screws to secure it in place. Ensure the pocket holes are facing down to keep them hidden.

Step 8: Final Assembly
Once the runner is attached, flip the table base upright and secure the tabletop to the legs using additional screws. This will ensure the entire structure is solid and stable.

Step 9: Finishing Touches
At this point, you can stain or paint your coffee table as desired. The final product should look like a high-end piece of furniture despite its low cost of around $40!
