The video “A Tip Too Good to Not Share” is by Inspire Woodcraft. In this video, Jodee dives into the creation and advantages of using an L fence, also known as a pattern fence, for enhancing your table saw experience.

Understanding the Setup
In the video, the process begins with a piece of melamine, which Jodee designates as the “keep section.” The plan is to rip a small piece off the end of this material. Jodee brings the fence close to the blade and sets the material in place, preparing for the cut.

Next, a half-inch piece of plywood is placed on top of the material. The star of the show, the L fence, is introduced. This L fence consists of two pieces of Baltic birch plywood that are screwed together, featuring a cutout for easy removal of offcuts underneath it. Jodee emphasizes its utility by mentioning the holes designed for clamps, ensuring stability during cuts.

Clamping and Adjusting
To secure the setup, Jodee prefers to remove the rubber from F-style clamps, allowing for a better fit. After dropping one clamp into the hole and securing it, the next step is to raise the saw blade just past the material without cutting into the fence. Using a square, he ensures the fence aligns perfectly with the outside of the blade.

Making the Cut
Once everything is lined up, Jodee shares a quick tip: if there’s no sandpaper on the MDF, double-sided tape can be used to secure the material. However, he opts for a piece of MDF with 150 grit sandpaper on one face and edge for better grip. The alignment is made just to the left of the cutting line, ensuring a precise cut.

As the saw starts, Jodee notes that the offcut will fall safely away, resulting in a perfect cut. After the cut, he shows the results — a flush finish exactly on the intended line. The offcut is easily cleared away thanks to the L fence’s design.

Final Thoughts
This simple yet effective setup, the L fence, is presented as an invaluable addition to any woodworking shop. Jodee expresses gratitude for the viewers’ attention and hints at future projects where this technique can be applied.
